Overview
Experience the beauty of the Black Hills as you chug along on the 1880 steam engine train. Pass by Harney Peak, Indian Cliffs, Old Baldy Mountain and more on this 2 hour and 20 minute round-trip journey in between the towns of Keystone and Hill City.
Fall back in time with friends and family when you climb aboard one of the oldest steam engines still in operation, built in 1919 by Baldwin Locomotive Works.
Grab a bite to eat at the Highliner Snack Shoppe, stop in the Depot Gift Shop, and learn more about Black Hills railroad history at the South Dakota State Railroad Museum.

The 1880 Train runs through the Black Hills between the towns of Keystone and Hill City.
Keystone Depot
The Keystone Depot is located just minutes from Mt. Rushmore, at: 103 Winter Street, Keystone, SD 57751. From Mt. Rushmore turn left onto S Dakota 244 and travel 1.6 miles before taking a slight left onto US-16 Alt E/Iron Mountain Rd. Continue 1 mile.
Hill City Depot
The Hill City Depot is located 12 miles from Mt. Rushmore, at: 222 Railroad Avenue, Hill City, SD 57745. From Mt. Rushmore turn right onto S Dakota 244 W and continue 9 miles before turning right at US-16 E/US-385 N and travel 3 miles.
